What Stains are Used to Identify Muscle Fiber Necrosis?
Several histological stains are utilized to highlight necrotic changes in muscle fibers. Hematoxylin and Eosin (H&E) stain is commonly used, as it reveals the general morphology and degree of eosinophilia in necrotic fibers. Masson's Trichrome stain is also useful for detecting fibrosis that often accompanies chronic necrosis. Additionally, immunohistochemical stains like desmin and dystrophin can help identify the integrity of muscle fibers.
