Wernicke's Encephalopathy (WE) is a neurological disorder resulting from thiamine deficiency (vitamin B1). It is characterized by a triad of symptoms: ophthalmoplegia (eye movement abnormalities), ataxia (lack of muscle coordination), and confusion. This condition is often associated with chronic alcoholism but can also occur due to malnutrition, gastrointestinal disorders, or prolonged vomiting.
