The renal corpuscle is the initial filtering component of the nephron and consists of the glomerulus and Bowman's capsule. The glomerulus contains a network of capillaries that are enveloped by Bowman's capsule. The filtration occurs across the three-layered filtration barrier: endothelium of glomerular capillaries, basement membrane, and the podocytes of Bowman's capsule.
