Ciliated cells play a crucial role in maintaining the health of the respiratory system by removing debris and pathogens. Dysfunction or damage to these cells can lead to conditions such as primary ciliary dyskinesia (PCD), a genetic disorder that impairs ciliary function. This can result in chronic respiratory infections, sinusitis, and infertility in females due to impaired ovum transport.
