MnSOD, or manganese superoxide dismutase, is an enzyme that resides primarily in the mitochondria of eukaryotic cells. It contains manganese at its active site and is critical for the detoxification of superoxide anions. The enzyme provides a first line of defense against reactive oxygen species (ROS), thereby maintaining cellular integrity.
