Hypoxic-Ischemic Encephalopathy (HIE) is a type of brain injury caused by oxygen deprivation (hypoxia) and limited blood flow (ischemia) to the brain. This condition is particularly critical in newborns but can also affect adults under certain medical conditions. HIE can lead to various degrees of brain damage, ranging from mild to severe, and is a significant cause of cerebral palsy and other neurodevelopmental disorders.
