Epithelial to Mesenchymal Transition (EMT) is a biological process in which epithelial cells undergo a series of biochemical changes that enable them to acquire a mesenchymal cell phenotype. This includes enhanced migratory capacity, invasiveness, elevated resistance to apoptosis, and greatly increased production of extracellular matrix components.
