What Histological Changes Are Seen in Alzheimer's Disease?
In Alzheimer's disease, two hallmark histological features are often observed: amyloid plaques and neurofibrillary tangles. Amyloid plaques are extracellular deposits of amyloid-beta protein, which can disrupt cell-to-cell communication. Neurofibrillary tangles are intracellular accumulations of hyperphosphorylated tau protein, which impair neuronal function.
