What are the Characteristics of Cardiac Muscle Cells?
Cardiac muscle cells, also known as cardiomyocytes, are striated muscle cells that are short, branched, and interconnected. They typically have a single, centrally located nucleus, although some cells may have two nuclei. The striations are due to the organized arrangement of actin and myosin filaments within the sarcomeres. This structure allows for strong and coordinated contractions necessary for effective heart function.
