Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS) are highly reactive molecules containing oxygen. These include superoxide anion (O2•−), hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), and hydroxyl radicals (•OH). ROS are generated as byproducts of normal cellular metabolism, particularly in the mitochondria, and play crucial roles in cell signaling and homeostasis.
