Amastigotes are a form of protozoan parasite observed in certain parasitic infections, particularly those caused by the genus Leishmania. They are one of the life stages of these parasites, usually found within the host macrophages. Unlike their motile counterpart, the promastigote, amastigotes lack a flagellum and are adapted to survive and proliferate within host cells.
