The anterior pituitary is composed of three distinct regions: the pars distalis, pars intermedia, and pars tuberalis. The pars distalis is the largest region and contains the majority of the hormone-producing cells. The pars intermedia is a thin layer between the pars distalis and the posterior pituitary, and the pars tuberalis wraps around the infundibulum.
