Oxyhemoglobin is formed in the lungs where oxygen concentration is high. Hemoglobin binds to oxygen molecules with the help of its iron-containing heme groups. Each hemoglobin molecule can bind up to four oxygen molecules, converting it into oxyhemoglobin. This process is reversible, allowing hemoglobin to release oxygen to tissues where it is needed.
