hyaluronic acid (ha)
How is Hyaluronic Acid Synthesized?
HA is synthesized by a family of enzymes called
hyaluronan synthases
(HAS1, HAS2, and HAS3). These enzymes catalyze the addition of N-acetylglucosamine and glucuronic acid to the growing HA chain, which is then extruded into the extracellular space.
