Sample Collection â A small tissue sample is collected from the patient, usually through a biopsy. Fixation â The tissue is preserved using a fixative to prevent decay and maintain its structure. Embedding â The tissue is embedded in a solid medium, typically paraffin wax, to support it during sectioning. Sectioning â The embedded tissue is cut into very thin slices using a microtome. Staining â The tissue sections are stained with dyes to highlight different structures. Common stains include Hematoxylin and Eosin (H&E). Examination â The stained tissue sections are examined under a microscope by a pathologist.
