Cardiac muscle is found exclusively in the heart. It also has a striated appearance but differs from skeletal muscle in several ways. The cells are branched, interconnected by intercalated discs, which facilitate synchronized contraction, essential for pumping blood. Cardiac muscle is involuntary and typically has a single nucleus per cell.
