Ribosomal proteins are highly conserved and are classified into two main categories based on their subunits: the small subunit (SSU) and the large subunit (LSU). In eukaryotic cells, the SSU (40S) contains about 33 proteins, while the LSU (60S) contains about 49 proteins. The structure of these proteins is integral for the proper folding and functioning of the ribosome.
