Merozoites are formed through a process known as schizogony, which occurs within the host's cells. For example, in the case of Plasmodium, schizogony occurs in the liver cells and red blood cells of the human host. Initially, sporozoites enter the host and infect liver cells, where they mature into schizonts. These schizonts then divide multiple times to produce numerous merozoites, which are released upon rupture of the host cell.
