Several types of cells are involved in the body's response to a UTI:
- Neutrophils: These are the first responders to bacterial infection and are usually the predominant cell type observed in acute UTIs. - Lymphocytes: These cells are more commonly seen in chronic infections. - Macrophages: These cells help in phagocytosing bacteria and cellular debris. - Epithelial Cells: The epithelial cells lining the urinary tract may show signs of damage and repair, such as increased mitotic activity.
