What is the Difference Between Palisade and Spongy Parenchyma?
Palisade parenchyma and spongy parenchyma are both part of the mesophyll layer, but they have distinct differences. Palisade parenchyma is located just below the upper epidermis and consists of tightly packed columnar cells. In contrast, spongy parenchyma is located below the palisade layer and consists of loosely packed, irregularly shaped cells with large intercellular spaces that facilitate gas exchange.
