bcl 2 family of proteins
What is the Bcl-2 Family?
The Bcl-2 family consists of proteins that share one or more of four characteristic Bcl-2 Homology (BH) domains. These proteins are categorized into three main groups:
Anti-apoptotic proteins (e.g.,
Bcl-2
, Bcl-xL, Mcl-1)
Pro-apoptotic effector proteins (e.g.,
Bax
, Bak)
Pro-apoptotic BH3-only proteins (e.g.,
Bid
, Bad,
Bim
)
