Hematocrit, also known as packed cell volume (PCV), is a measure of the proportion of red blood cells (RBCs) in the blood. It is expressed as a percentage of the total blood volume. For instance, a hematocrit level of 45% indicates that there are 45 milliliters of RBCs in 100 milliliters of blood.
