Calcein AM (acetoxymethyl ester) is a non-fluorescent, cell-permeable dye that is widely used in Histology and Cell Biology to assess cell viability. It becomes intensely fluorescent once it is cleaved by intracellular esterases within live cells. The fluorescent form of the dye, Calcein, is retained within viable cells, making it an effective tool for various biological assays.
