A low MCV, referred to as microcytosis, means that the RBCs are smaller than normal. This condition is often associated with iron deficiency anemia, thalassemia, and certain chronic diseases. Through histological analysis, the smaller size of RBCs can be confirmed, which helps in diagnosing the underlying cause.
