The primary symptom of LHON is a sudden, painless loss of central vision in one eye, usually followed by a similar loss in the other eye within weeks to months. This vision loss is due to the degeneration of the optic nerve fibers. Other symptoms may include dyschromatopsia and peripheral vision loss, although these are less common.
