The digestive tract is composed of four major layers, starting from the innermost to the outermost:
Mucosa: This layer includes the epithelium, lamina propria, and muscularis mucosae. It is responsible for secretion and absorption. Submucosa: A dense connective tissue containing blood vessels, lymphatics, and nerves. Muscularis Externa: Composed of smooth muscle, this layer facilitates peristalsis and segmentation. Serosa/Adventitia: The outermost layer providing structural support and reducing friction.
