What Are the Limitations of Histology in Detecting Infections?
While histology is incredibly informative, it has limitations:
Sample Quality: Poorly preserved or inadequately sampled tissues can lead to incorrect diagnoses. Specificity: Some infections may not show distinct histological features, making it challenging to identify the exact pathogen. Need for Supplementary Tests: Often, histology must be combined with other diagnostic methods, such as culture or PCR, to identify the causative organism definitively.
