What are the age-related changes in the immune system?
The immune system undergoes immunosenescence with aging. Histologically, there is involution of the thymus and a decrease in the production of naive T cells. Additionally, there is a reduction in the function and number of B cells. These changes contribute to a weakened immune response, making older individuals more susceptible to infections and diseases.
