Perforin and granzymes are critical components of the immune system, particularly in the function of cytotoxic cells such as Natural Killer (NK) cells and Cytotoxic T Lymphocytes (CTLs). These molecules work in tandem to induce apoptosis in target cells, such as virus-infected cells and tumor cells.
