Hydatid cysts are parasitic infections caused by the larval stage of the tapeworm Echinococcus granulosus or Echinococcus multilocularis. These cysts are commonly found in the liver and lungs but can occur in any organ or tissue. The disease is known as hydatid disease or echinococcosis.
