Glial cells, also known as neuroglia, are non-neuronal cells in the central nervous system (CNS) and peripheral nervous system (PNS). They play several supportive roles, including maintaining homeostasis, forming myelin, and providing support and protection for neurons. Types of glial cells include astrocytes, oligodendrocytes, microglia, and Schwann cells.
