Benign tumors are non-cancerous growths that tend to grow slowly and remain localized. They usually have well-defined borders and resemble the tissue of origin. In contrast, malignant tumors are cancerous, grow rapidly, invade surrounding tissues, and can metastasize to distant sites. Histologically, malignant tumors often show significant cellular atypia and high mitotic activity.
