Once a biopsy sample is obtained, it undergoes several steps before it can be examined under a microscope:
Fixation: The tissue sample is preserved using chemicals like formalin to prevent degradation. Embedding: The fixed tissue is embedded in a solid medium, usually paraffin wax, to provide support for sectioning. Sectioning: Thin slices of the embedded tissue are cut using a microtome. Staining: The tissue sections are stained with dyes like Hematoxylin and Eosin (H&E staining) to highlight cellular structures. Microscopic Examination: The stained tissue sections are examined under a microscope by a pathologist.
