How Does Epoxy Resin Compare to Other Embedding Media?
Epoxy resin is often compared to other embedding media such as paraffin wax, acrylic resin, and agarose gel. Each has its advantages and disadvantages:
Paraffin wax: Easier to handle and less expensive, but less durable and can shrink, distorting tissue samples. Acrylic resin: Offers excellent preservation but can be more difficult to section and is also costly. Agarose gel: Suitable for specific applications but lacks the mechanical strength and chemical resistance of epoxy resin.
