ACT typically involves the extraction of T cells from a patient's blood or tumor tissue. These cells are then cultured and expanded ex vivo (outside the body) to generate a large number of effector T cells. In some cases, the T cells may be genetically modified to enhance their ability to recognize and attack cancer cells. Once the T cells are prepared, they are infused back into the patient, where they can seek out and destroy cancerous cells.
