How Do Different Types of Physical Injuries Manifest Histologically?
Different types of physical injuries can result in distinct histological changes:
Cuts and Lacerations: These injuries exhibit disrupted skin layers, and the presence of blood clots can be seen. There is usually an infiltration of inflammatory cells and fibroblasts. Bruises: Bruises are characterized by the presence of extravasated blood within the tissues. Histologically, this appears as red blood cells outside of blood vessels, and the body responds with macrophages to clear the debris. Fractures: Bone fractures show disrupted bone tissue with areas of necrosis. Osteoclasts and osteoblasts are active in the remodeling process. Burns: Burns cause coagulative necrosis of the epidermis and dermis. There is also a significant inflammatory response and subsequent fibrosis.
