Neurons can be classified based on their structure and function. Structurally, they can be classified as multipolar, bipolar, or unipolar. Functionally, neurons are categorized as sensory (afferent) neurons, motor (efferent) neurons, and interneurons. Sensory neurons carry information from sensory receptors to the central nervous system (CNS), motor neurons transmit signals from the CNS to muscles or glands, and interneurons connect neurons within the CNS.
