clotting process

How are clots regulated and eventually removed?

The body has several mechanisms to regulate clot formation and ensure that it is limited to the site of injury:
- Antithrombin III: Inactivates thrombin and other clotting factors.
- Protein C and Protein S: Inhibit factors Va and VIIIa.
- Tissue factor pathway inhibitor (TFPI): Inhibits the extrinsic pathway.
Once the tissue is repaired, the clot is removed through a process called fibrinolysis, where plasmin, an enzyme derived from plasminogen, degrades fibrin into soluble fragments.
